    Description

For the Baseball Hobbyist. . .
    Authentic Autograph
    Ernest Alten [1894-1981],
    1920 Detroit Tigers
Uniquely signed, postally cancelled cover at Cooperstown, N.Y., April 17, 1971
One *collector's clever creation resulted in a USPS cancelled envelope with the autograph of an old-time ballplayer affixed! Likely no more than a handful of this cover exists - possibly it is
    unique
. It is a great item for team collector specialists.
Measuring 6-1/2" by 3-5/8" this envelope includes a black and white picture with vital statistics of the subject attached together with a six-cent USPS commemorative stamp honoring professional baseball's centennial (1869-1969). The stamp was cancelled at Cooperstown, New York, home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum on
    April 17, 1971
. The reverse side carries information relative to the player.
    About the subject
: Ernest "Lefty" Alten was a 13-year minor league pitcher who won 156 professional games against 141 losses. He was 0-1 in 14 games for the Detroit Tigers in 1920, his only big league season. Alten also pitched for Oakland, San Francisco and Vernon (of the Pacific Coast League), among others.
    Condition:
    Excellent
    - check the high-resolution scans, front and back; this is actual cover the buyer will receive.
*The creator of this collectible quite likely was longtime baseball hobbyist Joe H. Gerson.
